Re: F/O Ian Ross RAAF 617 Sqn
Hi Snowy
I will let you have copies of the letters I received from Freddie and also the page from my father's log-book albeit very brief. The experiences these young men went through, most certainly aged them.

Re: F/O Ian Ross RAAF 617 Sqn
Hi Snowy A brilliant set of photographs, thanks so much for posting these. In the second photo, note the white flash in Ian's side cap. This was worn by aircrew under training. My father was a Signals Instructor with 617 and would have known Ian almost as well as he knew Mowbray Ellwood, who was Ian...

Re: F/O Ian Ross RAAF 617 Sqn
Hi Snowy
welcome to this forum. I have to firstly apologise for my own absence for a while which is due to a house-move!
I would be very interested to see any photos you have of Ian Ross and his crew if that is possible.

Re: FLEMING, WO Melville (R109805/J89169)
Thanks, answered my own question as he had flown some of the same ops as my Uncle. I am sure now Fleming was on 61 sqn before 156. The orbs had three different initials. He was on the Dashper crew from about 13th Nov 1942 Lancaster W4899 QR- 61 Sgt Dashper F. Capt Sgt Faraday W. F/E Sgt Watkins H. ...

Re: FLEMING, WO Melville (R109805/J89169)
Hi Sandiego as promised I have found a reference to the DFC as follows: FLEMING, Melville WO1C, (C/R 109805) RCAF. 156 Squadron. London Gazette 12/12/1944 Page 5693. If there isn,t a citation in the L.G. it might be possible to find a reccomendation for the award in the National Archives; unfortunat...

Re: FLEMING, WO Melville (R109805/J89169)
Hi Sandiego welcome to the forum. If you are able to see a copy of the 156 Squadron ORB (operational record book), it will almost certainly record the date that this airman joined the Squadron and the OTU (operational training unit) or Squadron that he was transferred from. I have a list of all the ...

Re: 67 YEARS AGO TODAY ..... 24th March 1944
Hi Bob
I had the priviliege of meeting two Officers who survived Stalag Luft 3 and the enforced march. S/Ldr Gus Gunter and F/O Eddie Poulter, who were shot down in a 619 Sqn Lancaster.

Hi John
I was interested to note your remarks about the RAF Hospital at Ely in Cambridgeshire. Does anyone know if this is still there ? My father received treatment at Ely, (following a crash), in the burns unit. This was shortly after the war.

Re: Listed on Ebay - Medals x 5
Merlin said ....... I aggree with you entirely, unfortunately from a collectors viewpoint the fact that most WW2 medals were not named makes it even worse. Please excuse my ignorance but recently, I've held the view that all crew members medals were en scripted with the crew members name on them. I...
