Re: Assistance please in researching

Hi Richard Sorry not to have replied before now. I went away on holiday for a few days and have only just got around to checking this forum. You might be lucky with 1665 CU. I found quite good records on 1660 Conversion Unit, and if I recall correctly it seemed as though there were good records on o...

Re: Assistance please in researching

Hi James I think I'm right in saying that if you take your own laptop to Kew and then log in to the system while there, you can download any info which is available digitally for free. This would apply to all the squadron ORBs, but not the conversion and other training unit ORBs which are only avail...

Re: 'Declan Smith' - beware

Well, in the light of recent developments (see my blog https://dambustersblog.com/2017/02/10/alex-bateman-jailed-for-two-years-full-report/ ) Alex had a bit of a nerve putting up this post. Declan Smith would seem to be a bona fide professional film researcher. Alex, on the other hand, has been foun...

Re: Dennis Over

Thanks for the updates re LAF, chaps. If Bruno can find a way of downloading the posts, I'm sure there must be techies around who could sort out the different posts, Thwre was a lot of good material there, including Dennis's posts of course. I remember being quite chuffed that I had just reached a n...

Re: Dennis Over

Have only just seen this. Very sad to hear the news about Dennis. I remember his posts on the LAF with great affection. There was so much detail, I always thought that they should be edited together into a book. I don't suppose there is any way of getting hold of what must be a vast archive of infor...

Re: 'Declan Smith' - beware

Alex -- You've also posted something similar on the RAF Commands site. It was me that put Declan Smith in contact with you. He said that he was working for TVT, the production company making the John Nichol documentary. His email signature gave TVT's website and his own membership of an organisation...

Re: Web Site

Hi Steve Wordpress.com is definitely the way to go. It won't cost you anything at all. There are loads of themes (design frameworks) and adding text and pictures is very easy. You can also track the number of visitors, where they came from and what they look at on site I run my blog on it. I have ov...

Re: Gibson and crew photo.........

Sorry to contradict you, but the two colour pictures were taken in July 1943, not during the royal visit on 27 May 1943. There is another one from the same sequence showing Gibson with my uncle, David Maltby, in the CO's office. Gibson is wearing a battledress uniform top in all these pictures. In t...

Re: IWM Photo Collection

Steve I too was at the IWM photo library a couple of years ago, and there was a lot of uncatalogued stuff. Did you go into the back room? (you have to be taken by a member of staff). There are also some documents relating to the photographs -- I found the original material relating to the King's vis...
