Ground Crew Training
I am trying to establish the training schedule for ground crew (probably aircraft maintenance) around 1939 / 1940. I know that there was an 18 week course, (5 wing Halton), followed by a 6 month course, (1 wing Hednesford) but I am not sure what followed after that. Does anyone have a training sched...

Re: A land fit for heroes?
I was sent this a while ago and, whilst tongue in cheek, it seems to me to be the ideal solution: Let's put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home. This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks. They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and med...

Re: A picture speaks a thousand words.... on Ebay
Just to add to the above ... on enlargement there appears to be a wooden structure of some kind half way up the hill ... posts in the ground with boards across them? or are they more crosses? .... and then there is some kind of platform to the right of these .... or my eyesight has gone blurry tryin...

Re: A picture speaks a thousand words.... on Ebay
Alan I had assumed that you would have gone down that route ... but just to continue the thought process .... if the RNAS numbers were reallocated in 1918 with 200000 added by the RAF to the original service number, then information on your fellow may be registered under his original 37134 (ie 20000...

Re: A picture speaks a thousand words.... on Ebay
Alan I looked up the allocation dates for particular service numbers. Your 237134 number was allocated to RNAS (1917 Enlistment) ... so these seem too early. If you add a 1 to the front 1237134, the number was allocated at Cardington (1940) ... a possible, although nothing on CWGC If you add a numbe...

Re: Notice to Recruit to Return to Service
Richard Thanks for your time and effort in responding to this thread. I have provided an extract from our research which hopefully puts the letter you have attached into context: "As instructed, on 9th April 1943, Cecil packed a small suitcase, his civilian respirator and the requisite paperwor...

Notice to Recruit to Return to Service
Does anyone have a copy of the letter (circa 1943/1944) sent to RAFVR recruits calling them up to commence their training at ACRC after they have been held on reserve following attestation (Form 1376)? We are trying to get hold of a copy so that we can include in a research project that we are curre...

Re: Aiming Points / Crew Objectives
I don't seem to be having much luck with this quest; would it help if I broadened it out to missions flown between September 1944 and February 1945 or is the information just not available without a trip to Kew?.

Aiming Points / Crew Objectives
Hi, it has been suggested that I post on this forum as you may be able to assist with my research. I am trying to establish detailed information regarding the aiming points / crew objectives for the sorties flown by a particular 35 Squadron PFF Lancaster crew (AE Johnson crew, September 1944 to Febr...
