Re: Short Stirling Aircraft - Official Production film & Ima

I really wish that I could have had the film Ian posted to hand three years ago while planning my model! I have found so many errors that I am wondering if I should build another - perhaps larger if I can figure out how to disassemble it for transport. That shouldn't be beyond the wit of man... thou...

Re: 1:10 model: Who can I honour?

IMG_8862i.jpg Having just received some airborne shots of the model I thought I would put a few that are unlikely to form part of any future publication article here. Hopefully you will enjoy them for whatever they are worth. I am still having troubles with the retract system although I am much clo...

Re: Not one to put on the sideboard

Thanks John.

95 lbs. is a LOT of aircraft to hold onto - I reckon he'd better have a foot bolted to the ground if he's going to fly that!
At least the CAA's weight limits (20kg) don't apply to tethered aircraft - he'd better not let go though!

Re: Not one to put on the sideboard

Puts mine in the shade for size at least! - Almost twice the size!

I didn't hear the modeller's name - I'd love to know if those wheels retract or not, what fuel it uses and what the all-up weight is.

Pity the researchers were a bit slack on how many Lancasters remain though.

Re: CRASHED STIRLING LUDFORD MAGNA

Looking at the photos and maps posted I found myself wondering how the aircraft came to rest where shown - which position looks well deduced from landmarks. An approach from the South-west seems most likely for an aircraft that had been shot up and with a missing engine. However from the front view ...

Re: 1:10 model: Who can I honour?

Quite so John - I wasn't thinking straight at that point... much more concerned about the other presences on the field!

That presumably puts this photo pre war when a German type would not be expected to be present - even if this is at an R&D establishment.
Do you know where it was taken?

Re: 1:10 model: Who can I honour?

James, Thank you again! Particularly that last one could have saved quite a few modelling errors. As you say so light under the wing - and above come to that - you wouldn't guess that the colours were actually dark green and brown... or black underneath. But there's something odd in the background.....

Re: 1:10 model: Who can I honour?

James, those are excellent! And quite sufficient to work on - which I will do tomorrow. I agree that the part of the underside where the bomb bays are definitely looks flat. The slight curvature on the wing photo is down to perspective due to camera position, but aft of the bays is the evidence I ne...

Re: 1:10 model: Who can I honour?

Thanks James, The Goettingen wing section is not a mystery - I have a drawing and co-ordinates for it, but when the dreaded word 'mod' appears after a section listing with no clue what part of it was modified, the modification seems normally to be in connection with leading edge slots or flaps - or ...
