Re: A Well earned Cuppa ..........

I must have now reverted to my childhood! You and I both old chap, but most agreeable so far as I am concerned. I went to a toy aeroplane event at Shuttleworth on Sunday - all my peers lobbing free flight models about just as we did over 50 years ago. Bliss! I bought an old diesel engine made origi...

Re: A Well earned Cuppa ..........

Wasting his time if she is wearing regulation knickers! Years ago when Max was a boy I remember one of WAAFs saying that the knickers were a devil to get off. The Officer present said rather dryly "That my dear is precisely the idea, now the Americans have joined us".

Re: A Magnificent Collection of Model Aircraft

Amazing stamina - even if he started at say six years old and is now 102 that is pretty good going! So many of the same type - that is dedication!

Re: Not Your Everyday Photos of WW2 Aircraft

Nice ones - we used to visit Reculver frequently when we lived down that way. The two towers , it has been suggested where like those of the Dam - frankly I did not think so. I would say the attraction was the access from London, rather deserted and shallow water to ease recovery. Which they did not...

Re: An unidentified conflagration!

Very doubtful if it was a training exercise - too close to the boundary and trees. All speculation - ad infinitum.

Re: An unidentified conflagration!

Can't go with the Halifax fin - wrong shape and proportions - and the item in question may be behind the tree - see foliage. Not sure about the tailwheel either. The engines are low slung and may have been pushed under the wings. The fuselage has broken along the join just behind the main spar, and ...

Re: An unidentified conflagration!

Yes, Guy - cannot see (as I said) that it was deliberate burning - certainly not in the position it is and I do not think that they burnt aircraft as such as the airframe for example would have been used for spares etc. An accident is the most likely explanation. Yes Max - I try to be modest because...

Re: An unidentified conflagration!

Maybe some evidence that the aircraft has slid along the ground? The stb. aileron seems to have soil (?) against it. Are there two different photos here - the first one shows the nose section clearly. Would not the wings have gone up in flames - fuel tanks? The fire seems to have started in the fuse...

Re: Lancaster Archive Forum...

Very pleasing to hear Alan but like me you are well away from the so called hub of things - the South & South East (where I used to live). There is a much more rational approach I feel among those away from the home counties. It is quite usual for example that the children here have days off to ...

Re: Lancaster Archive Forum...

Grand - if it is all the old school and some new folk then that is fine. We happy band and all that....... It is rather strange but I am meeting more and more people - from all generations who are now recognising what Bomber Command was all about - who knows they may even have it on the curriculum i...
