Let Tyrants Tremble - 199 Squadron

A book written by John Reid, who a lot of us will know, has just been published by Stenlake Publishing Limited. I have just purchased a copy and it looks a very comprehensive day to day history of 199 covering the wide variety of roles in which the Squadron were involved. A fine tribute to the men o...

Re: Not Your Everyday Photos of WW2 Aircraft and alike

Here is an interesting piece ............. Note the names over each bomb symbol. Can anybody state the reason for the 'key' symbol and the meaning of it? Re: Disturbing correspondence

John As you are aware, my comments are not directed at having a pop at Alan. My comments are directed at everyone, be they members of this forum or not, who has verifiable evidence of others who are desecrating crash sites. The people responsible must be identified publicly. Collective hand wringing...

Re: Disturbing correspondence

I still cannot understand why we are all dancing around this issue. If anyone knows the names of those who are desecrating crash sites, they must be identified. As a bit of of background, the reason why I feel so strongly about this is my great grandfather lost his life on HMS Indefatigable during t...

Alan

You are perfectly entitled to use asterisks in any way you please. My point is that naming and shaming is a much more effective course.

Re: Disturbing correspondence

Obviously some forum members who have posted here know the name of the person responsible. I personally have no idea who this person is. However, as we are all agreed that the methods used to excavate the crash site or sites (with the high probability of human remains having been descreated) are bey...

Re: Another Sign Of The Times ............

Absolutely, Halifax but that, with respect, has little if anything, to do with health and safety. We could go to the other extreme and get rid of health and safety legislation. Then watch the death rate rise in industry. Life is a risk and it is trying to strike the correct balance which a lot of pe...

Re: Another Sign Of The Times ............

Usually when there is a strange decision such as this that the Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail or Daily Express readers can get worked up about, health and safety is blamed. More often than not ,the person who has taken the final decision either has not a clue about how to implement health and safety le...

In John Ward's excellent history of 49 Squadron " Beware of the Dog at War" ISBN 0 9532252 0 8 : - 13/14 October 1941 : Cologne During the whole operation, the raiders were plagued by severe icing conditions. It was due to icing that Sgt. Hiles (AE241) and crew spiralled down in a terrifyi...
