Re: Stirling R9329 Query and Photos?

Dave I have had a look at the book the 149 Squadron history "Strong by Night" ISBN 0 85130 313 7 by John Johnston and Nick Carter which records your uncle's aircraft "was damaged by anti-aircraft fire in the target area while mining off the French coast". The Stirling File by Bru...

Re: Lost Gunner

Steve

Interestingly, in the copy of the book I have of Bill Chorley's Bomber Command War Losses 1942, there is no record of any 218 Squadron loss on 2/3 September 1942 to Karlsruhe.

Re: A must have Book on Stirlings

Hi North Creake Stirling at War, I think, was Jonathan Falconer's first book about the Short Stirling and as previously mentioned, was published in 1991. The book is A4 in size and has a great selection of photographs of the Stirling from its inception through its Main Force role and then during Bom...

Re: A must have Book on Stirlings

To my mind, the must have book on Stirlings is Jonathan Falconer's "Stirling at War" published 1991 ISBN 0 7110 2022 1.

Chris

There are some marvellous photographs in the collection. I have the 199 ORB and I can have a look through it if you want as I recognise a number of names in your list.

Cheers

Re: Good Pic of pranged Stirling

Bruno

I do not think this is a 199 Squadron Stirling as the two letter code starts with an X or Y. If it was a 199 aircraft, as you said it would be EX. If it is 1651 CU, it may be YZ. It may even be a 1657 CU aircraft with a code of XT with the aircraft letter of E or F.

Best wishes
