Re: RAF Bomber Crewman
Hi all please forgive me for wandering off the book topic. I am in the middle of reading 'MEN OF AIR' The Doomed Youth of Bomber Command by KEVIN WILSON. I have got to the page where F/Sgt Gray of 50 Squadron describes his parachute descent after his Lancaster R5546 VN-T exploded ! Having put on his...

Many thanks for your good wishes John for my birthday. Drinks are on me in the mess tonight, if you can make it on time........
I do remember my father's survival rations which were in a tin. He had a small supply of Horlicks tablets which as a nipper I thought were great.

Re: Coned at Bremen
Hi Dennis I think the term 'Hooligan', for aircrew types was very apt! I have never forgotten the dressing down my poor father got from my mother, for cranking over his 'Fanny Barnet', in Tentelow Lane, Heston; with yours truly on the pillion. The result being an almighy 'prang', which took out the ...

Hi Mal
interesting comment in your dad's logbook. 'Spam dropping over Rotterdam'. Not to be confused of course with modern day 'spam'. I imagine there are a few younger members on this forum who have not tasted a tin of spam!!!

Hi all
I have only ever seen the turret from the outside of a Lancaster and I have always felt that being in such a tight space would be very dangerous in such situations.

You mentioned the name Fairbairn which rings a bell with me. F/O L J Fairbairn RNZAF was KIA on the 17/11/42. He was with 158 (RAF) Sqn. Halifax II W7863 NP-V Op: Nickel.
Don't know if this helps?
Regards Paul
