Re: Draft Version of new Novel Featuring Short Stirlings

Thanks Richard
The story is mostly based around the No. 1657 Conversion Unit at Stradishall around the Autumn 1943. I have now completed the draft and my first reader is about to finish it. Once he has done this and I have made some corrections/changes, I will be in touch.

Re: Draft Version of new Novel Featuring Short Stirlings

Thanks John I had absolutely no intention of garnering interest for myself as a writer. By putting a paragraph in there about who I was, and what I have written, I simply wanted to show that I take myself seriously as a writer. I am not sure if you think it comes across as self-advertising? If so, I...

Draft Version of new Novel Featuring Short Stirlings

Hello to all As mentioned when I first joined this forum, I have spent the last year completing the first draft of a novel, set in WWII, and featuring Short Stirling (MKIIs) and Hawker Hurricanes - both unsung stars of WWII. This was a deliberate choice on my part as I have long be a fan of Stirling...

Re: Looking for information on Stirling Aircraft & Crews ?

Thanks Smudger. That's great and really clears up a mystery for me. I checked the book and it matches up with what you are saying. It's as John suspected too. I can be much more confident about choosing serials and squadron codes for my book. How did you come by these records? Is it from the Nationa...

Re: Looking for information on Stirling Aircraft & Crews ?

Hi John I have been meaning to reply but life being what it is, I have been too busy. Thanks for the long and detailed reply. While I am sure you're right that some went missing (1% might be a good figure) given that record keeping was not as good then as now, nevertheless there is something systema...

Re: Looking for information on Stirling Aircraft & Crews ?

Thanks John. I have been 'silently' reading this forum's posts for some time. With regard to the question: how do I found out what actually happened to aircraft that had the 'M' in the serial number. They appear still exist according to Michael Bowyer since there is no evidence of them having been S...

Re: Looking for information on Stirling Aircraft & Crews ?

Hi. My name is Lazlo Ferran. I am a writer and currently writing a novel - A WWII drama featuring Short Stirling MK1s. I need the answer to a question so I will put that first before giving more of my background as an introduction because a lot of people interested in Stirlings won't be interested i...
