Re: Crash photos..Wellington?

Hi Gary

Could you scan them in sections? Easy enough to stitch them together even if that was needed.

Re: Crash photos..Wellington?

Hi Gary

" I have a nice set of plans for Fraser-Nash Turrets and one for bomb winches and cable cutters.... these apparently were placed on the wings??) ;)"

I'm very interested in the plans you mention. The cable cutters were also fitted to some Stirlings

Re: Stirling Fire Extinguisher

Hi Steve my second post applies to engine fire.

Here is a pic of what I assume are the nacelle extinguishers - don't know what Mk it is, I suspect MKI again. Interestingly there are two and the text only mentions one.

Re: Stirling Fire Extinguisher

Hi John

I did a while ago now when I was drawing up the extinguisher - no reply at all sadly.

Re: Stirling Fire Extinguisher

Hi Steve

The crew had hand extinguishers by Graviner (certainly for the MKI) but are you referring to the ones in the engine nacelles?

Incidentally, if anyone has a good picture of the label on the front of the extinguisher shown I would be grateful of a copy!

Re: Crash of Stirling Mk111 October 1944

Hi Intersting, I've just read the parachute drill in more detail myself and I'm surprised that the rear gunner goes forward to bale in a 'normal' situation. I assume that this is something related to the Captain being able to account for his crew. Incidentally, on some Stirlings there was an indepen...

Re: Crash of Stirling Mk111 October 1944

Hi Elaine

There are some rather nice models of the Stirling in cut-aways on these links (even if I do say so myself!)

Re: Crash of Stirling Mk111 October 1944

The tail gunner used this door - he had to go back to this door to get his parachute since the turret was too small to wear it and because the parachute was in the bin that you can see attached to the door! The door is on a lanyard just to stop it falling and hurting someone (?) and they may have ne...

And the cut-away that goes with it.
