Re: Airfield call signs
I can only reply with "I assume so" Steve, perhaps Alex may be able to confirm. I would have thought changing names could lead to confusion, and I think at times there was enough of that already! As far as I know there was no change, at least I've never come across any. The mind really bo...

Re: 467 Sqn 'Ton Up' Lanc
The highlight was when I finally was able to see her at Hendon. Even given permission to cross the ropes to get closer but not close enough to board her. That was a very nice and obliging attendant on that day. What I'd like to see is a walkway around the Bomber Hall so that you can look down onto ...

Re: Look Familiar .....Snow
Pleasure, glad to be able to add something. Whilst uniform or insignia isnt everyone's taste, it can help to pin down dates of photos almost to a month sometimes

Re: Look Familiar .....Snow
I wouldnt say that Smudge! Thats a cracking photo to those of us who collect and research insignia. The chap on the ground is wearing a sleeve full showing from top, the shoulder eagle, the brass 'Winged Bullet' air gunners trade badge, the wireless operators sleeve badge and finally the Leading Air...

Re: Have the MoD changed their policy on Service Records?
The only valid point I can see for witholding info is for any embarrassment it might cause to anyone still living, but, sad to say, we are getting to that point where its less relevant now. Through my research, years ago I got friendly with the grandaughter of a Dambuster who had survived being shot...

John Nice photo (especially to see in the early codes), but a bit generous with the ops tally! She supposedly did 137 going by the bombs on her nose. You can see the thicker code outline here too as mentioned by Max. An interesting history of her can be found at http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/co...

Re: Have the MoD changed their policy on Service Records?
The MoD are a pain. Its reasonable to ask for a fee for copying and the cost of paper etc, but the £30.00 is only a search fee and they dont promise to send anything. I had a large number of personnel to research. The Canadians sent me several pages of service details for free years ago (with one or...

Hello David, nice to see you!
Yes I'd say a Wellington too. Got that thing must have been even worse than a conventional turret!
