Re: 149 Squadron Crews Photo

Alan I'm fairly sure the photo was taken at 149 Squadron. The pilot of my uncles crew joined the squadron in March 42. Five more members of the crew arrived together on may 7 from 1651 CU. My uncle arrived at the end of June and he's on the photo. There was a 149 squadron conversion flight from Jan ...

Re: 149 Squadron Crews Photo

Hi Douglas I don't think they're all air gunners. I've been able to positively identify the Observer and the Wireless Op. I know w/ops also acted as air gunners but in this crew there were always 3 air gunners and a w/op. The ORB records the same chap as the w/op on all 12 ops flown by the crew. Dave

Re: 149 Squadron Crews Photo

Could the coiled cable be part of the thermal suits?

Re: 149 Squadron Crews Photo

Hi John Many thanks for that. My uncle (standing far right) was certainly an air gunner. What's the significance of the coil of cable? By this time, spring/summer 1942, the squadron was wholly on Stirlings according to the ORB. I wasn't sure the chap standing at the far left was aircrew. He doesn't ...

149 Squadron Crews Photo

Gents I wonder if anyone can help with a few questions on this photo. My uncle (standing far right) is on it as are several members of his crew: http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee474/gricer4321/149sdncrews1942.jpg I know it shows at least one Stirling crew from 149 Squadron and was taken between...

Re: War Dig Sunday 27th May 2012

Hi Steve I have to say I don't have Sky so I did miss it. Andy Saunders posted a schedule for the series on another forum a month or so ago (http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=116101) and the Stirling episode was originally down for next Sunday 3rd June. I'd got a mate all primed to r...

Re: Operation Identification Challenge 95

Think you're right there Alan. My nav is blaming John's 'Paint by Numbers' Cartography set that he used on the 1st image  Think I'll replace him with a Tom Tom Sat Nav ;) That's the nav not John!!!
