Re: What is this book used for ?

This is obviously very similar to a conventional log book. However never having seen one must make it rather rare, its not a sight book thus can only think its a maintenence type of log for ground crew to record flights associated to repairs or similar. A similar one with lots of entries would no do...

Re: RAAF uniform identification and information?

My eyes are not great but the middle photo image looks like the buttons are holding detail indicating (my bet is RCAF myself) Obviously both men are not aircrew....

1426 Enemy Aircraft Flight

The ORBs for this unit advises that in January 1945 the Enemy Aircraft Flight only comprised of 7 Pilots - 2 W/Op AG and 32 ground crew. This must be an exceptionally small unit of men - both Air Gunners were long serving experienced men with DFM's and by that time Officers. On strength were three J...

Re: 624 (SD) Sqdn Stirling crew, August 1944

This little piece may well interest you, it's a photo caption relative to the squadron to be included in a book that touches on special duties in the broadest term to be published later this year. An interesting Squadron.......... Wing Commander Stanbury DSO, DFC, the Officer Commanding 624 Squadron...

Re: 218 Squadron Question

Steve.
Thank you for looking, I can only think they arrived and departed so swiftly it was not recorded, no other explanation as his name would have popped up on a sortie. Another oddity in researching movements as noted on ORB's.

218 Squadron Question

I have worked backwards from an incident on the 1 June 1942 when a crew ditched in the sea off Holland. The crews pilot was F/Sgt Kormyllo and the ORB for 57 Squadron records them arriving from 218 Squadron in May 1941. I fully expected them to have come in from an OTU and wonder if our 218 Squadron...

Re: Just A Thought About Gunners ............ ( Rain )

John. During my research on 'Glorious in solitude' accounts of Rear Gunners I investigated the history of perspex which was very interesting, however to the best of my knowledge perspex panels were only removed from rear Gunners and obviously that open panel area was never facing forwards. They fitt...

Indeed I have and as much as possible I have researched many other areas that have not been covered previously, see the book content listing: Foreword Introduction Historical background Chapter 1 RAuxAF and the RAFVR Chapter 2 Air Gunner Training Chapter 3 Air Gunner Brevet Chapter 4 Operational Tra...
