Re: Bombing Photos?
I don't think whether it was your photo flash or someone else's was an issue - all you needed was light at the right time, when your shutter was open with a frame of film sitting in it being exposed. The long trails of fires, flares, markers and flak that I've seen on bombing photos definitely sugge...

Re: The Science of Bombing - Operational Research in RAF Bo
Yes Kerry, I've got this one. Wakelam goes into great detail. It's sometimes a little dry but it's fascinating to see how science - statistical analysis primarily - was used to explain things and to calculate, for example, the optimum concentration of aircraft to a) overwhelm the defences without b)...

Re: Little bit choppy
Holy dooley! Not far from Melbourne is the Great Ocean Road - I was last there about 13 years ago now but the limestone cliffs are eroding and the scenery has changed somewhat... Re: Fly by Michael Veitch
As an added bonus, the author of this book has made use of his acting and broadcasting talents to turn it into a one-man play - he performed it at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne in November. I missed out unfortunately but I'm told it was excellent. Apparently he will be taking it on tour aro...

Re: Glider flight
Powered glider I see, Max? As a wise man once told me, if you go flying (in something that doesn't have a drinks cart) and you don't go upside down at least once, it's been a waste of fuel. I wasn't ever particularly good at it, but it was great fun. Here's me taking a mate for a fly in a Citabria a...

Re: Slight shower
I was on a bike ride the other week around Melbourne, on the so-called 'Capital City Trail', which occasionally ducks below the level of the adjacent creek to go under bridges. Concrete walls keep the water at bay. Well, most of the time. No great rainfall recently so I can only assume that some nea...

Re: Interesting discovery in Arizona aircraft boneyard
While we're on the topic of Shackletons, I'm reminded of a story someone told me at work. Details are a bit sketchy and it may be slightly embellished but it goes something like this... Some years ago, a pilot somewhere in the GAFA (Great Australian F-All - ie the Outback) called air traffic control...

Re: Memories of RAAF Bomb Aimers in WW2
G'day Liane, I can't assist with any specifics but a good source of memories from Australian aircrew is the Australians at War Film Archive - see http://www.australiansatwarfilmarchive.gov.au/aawfa/search.aspx - which was set up from interviews made in the early 2000s with surviving veterans. There ...
