John, yes they did deflect the guns from the structure, they were called the interruptor gear.The mid upper had a 360' field of fire.

Bob, We owe much to the late Robin Gibb's efforts, I believe that he gave Prime Minister Brown quite an ear bashing on the Govt''s. attitude and meanness.
