Re: W/Cdr Ken Wallis

Yes - agree an amazing chap - he is almost a neighbour. He was/is an incredible engineer and his achievements remarkable - the Canberra might have been scrapped if it were not for him! Rather a good sense of humour too. But in fact the award is a clasp - and frankly I think it sells all the fellows ...

Re: Interesting photo ........

Spare a thought to for the people in the ARP - who often stood on buildings during a raid and one of the duties they had was to spot fires! It was not unknown for the building they were on to be hit and catch fire. I think had there been a HSE in those days they may well have been incarcerated for s...

Thank you John - that is very thoughtful - I will see if I can enhance it a bit but a lovely piece of history.

Re: WW2 Aircraft Production images

The application of camouflage patterns has been the subject of discussion on many forums and in a number of cases simply bovine faeces baffling the grey matter!! However i have long been a fan of the idea that mats were used and I am very pleased to say that finally a chum of mine has finally (after...

Re: LMF - Interesting details from book

Can't disagree with any of that. I have just remembered a medic - I am sure he was a shrink (RAF) who was obsessed (can't think of a other word) with PTSD and was very disappointed if chaps did not show any when he met them after Gulf One. I wonder if sometimes he did not help on occasions. Inevitab...

Re: LMF - Interesting details from book

i think compared with myself (and I have had more practice I admit) your tolerance levels are rather higher than mine - I know what you mean; but every now and again one comes across a younger person who is refreshingly different from the norm. That is a joy, frankly! I do feel though Max that many ...

Re: LMF - Interesting details from book

Your Father is a few years my senior and I have to say I share his views more closely than I do those of the next generations with whom I become increasingly out of touch. I cannot perceive for example why we now seemingly have to apologise for some acts of the past - e.g. the Mau Mau having talked ...

Re: LMF - Interesting details from book

Indeed, but it was a different era. People held different "values" and there was certainly no political correctness. Drill Instructors could freely abuse (verbally) the recruits, children at school could be picked on and and shown up in front of a class, caned or slapped, given the slipper...

Re: LMF - Interesting details from book

Steve, I found that very heartening and quite touching in a way and those who know me will affirm that I am far from being an emotional type. Your B in L has I think got it just right. We all have had our pet fears - losing limbs - being blinded, crippled etc. Dealing with it is the test. I certainl...
