Re: RAF Training Bases
Dave, a couple of points to help you along the way... 754 Squadron was both a Fleet Air Arm squadron and also a RAF Regiment Squadron. I think in this case its the latter. 754 Squadron was originally part of the Aerodrome Defence Corps, and was formed at RAF Limavady on the northern coast of Norther...

Re: Lancaster LE-V LM637 from 630 Sqn.
I've had to register with the 630 site to see the photo, and now looking at it it immediately looked to me like a generator, of the type used on the engine. Each inboard engine of a Lancaster had mounted on it a 1000 watt generator to power the 'General Services' hydraulic system (IE bomb doors, und...

Re: Paint colours
RAF uniform during the war was more grey than it is now.
Overalls generally came in black or navy blue, or khaki, with varying shades thereof!

Re: Aircraft Identification Challenge No: 13
This is quite a hard one. The photo on the left looks like a Halifax to me - high mounted tailplane, and what appears to be that low entrance door/hatch on the fuselage side, over the roundel. Plus a Merlin engine. I'd go for a Merlin engined Halifax on the left. The photo on the right appears to ha...

Ooooo, that was sneaky. Max, how could you! Still a good challenge. Right I think we'll have to send you some photos for this. But good fun.

Re: Aircraft Identification Challenge No: 12
Hmmmm, this is tricky. The photo on the left looks like a Westland Whirlwind, with four nose mounted 20 mm (Hispano?) canon. I'd be fairly confident with that. However, the Whirlwind I think has a nose that lifts off to service and arm the guns. The photo on the right seems to have the guns in a dif...
