Re: Aircraft Identification Challenge No: 11
I'd agree with Richard. The left picture I'd say is a Halifax. The Hastings has the same leg, but of course was transport and not bomber (being bombed up) so I cant think its anything else. Like Richard, I cant think of another bomber with a small undercarriage leg like that. Bomb door is the right ...

Re: 1:48 Scale Tamiya Lancaster Build
The 'axle' the props are mounted on, should be moveable once fixed allowing any position. but if you've fixed them, I'd suggest random as it wasnt practise of wartime groundcrews to line up the blades. Thats a preserve of the BBMF!

Re: Aircraft Identification Challenge No: 7
Thats interesting. I knew the Beau flew with merlins, as a mate of mine's dad flew one I think at some point. Never heard of them with the Griffon, even as a prototype, and only seen the griffon in fighters before, so that cowling was interesting to see.

Re: Logbooks - When were they handed out?
I have copies of a lot of Dams logs and have seen many others that go on to two tours. Most can be fitted in a single book, it all depends on what else went on. If the person spent a lot of time instructing that would fill the book, as would a lot of flight tests, NFTs etc.

Re: Logbooks - When were they handed out?
They would be issued a log book at their first flying training establishment, and in it record early flying on such types as tiger Moth etc. The book would be continued until full, and then replaced with a new one.

Mmmmm, fishy. Looks to be a twin engined job, with the Merlin 85? I've not seen this one before but will guess at a Beaughfighter prototype of some sort with Merlin 85s?

Re: Aircraft Identification Challenge No: 6
Wallis is often incorrectly referred to as the designer of the Wellington, and also of the geodetic system. The Geodetic method of construction was French, which Wallis saw at a show I think in the late 1920s. From that he designed the Wellesley, and part of the Wellington, although with the latter,...

Re: Aircraft Identification Challenge No: 6
I first looked at this and was baffled by the tail and tailwheel. But noticed the geodetic like fuselage. I thought of the Wellington, and the only one I can think of with a nose like that is the Vickers Wellington prototype, K4049.

Smudge, when are you going? I might have one or two small things to clear up? Will you be going again? Thanks very much for making the kind offer to us..
