Hello, I want to present you the wonderful new Website of Steve Holmes dedicated to his dad John Holmes (Flight Engineer in 196 Squadron) and his crew who all survived the crash of their Stirling during Operation Varsity on 24th March 1945. Hi Dom, Very interesting! Even if the Stirling could easily tow the 'big' Hamilcar, only the 38 Group Halifaxes Squadrons (298 & 644 Squadrons) flew operational missions with Hamilcar gliders. I don't know why Halifaxes Squadrons were chosen and not Stirling Squadrons. It is also said that the c...
