Re: SHORT STIRLING AIRCRAFT & CREW PHOTOGRAPH'S

Paul I have had a look at the ORB and for the information of the forum, I have enclosed the following about your grandfather S/Ldr. Re: Second Dickie flights

Another point to consider is that earlier in the War, there were more examples of several second dickie flights by pilots. Whether this was due to too few aircraft at the time, I am not sure. Certainly as four engine bomber production increased, it was likely there was less of an imbalance re pilots...

Re: SHORT STIRLING AIRCRAFT & CREW PHOTOGRAPH'S

Paul

I am away from my desk and the ORB but will have a look at the ORB for you next week. Do you know whether he flew with 171 Squadron which was also based at North Creake between late 1944 - 1945? I also have the 171 ORB but any guidance on that would be helpful.

Cheers

Re: SHORT STIRLING AIRCRAFT & CREW PHOTOGRAPH'S

Paul

I have the complete 199 Operations Record Book and I would be happy to have a look through it if you wish to let you find out the dates of your grandfather's operations with the Squadron and his crew.

Bob

Nothing but the best although in the event of Halifax being worried about this statement being PC, I can confirm that other brands are available for the general public to purchase.

I believe the mystical effects of porridge may also have played a part.

Re: Dambusters remake

There is an old saying "We're all Jock Tampson's bairns". For those of you who need a translation, I am sure Google will provide the answer.

Good news Halifax, we are related.

Richard My uncle, during his time at 1657 CU in July 1943, did a daylight X-country of 4 hours 40 minutes and a night X-country of 4 hours 30 minutes. On reaching 199 Squadron later that month, they did a night time X-country of 5 hours 15 minutes and in August a Bullseye of 5 hours 25 minutes. Thei...

Re: Dambusters remake

Hi Bob I seem to remember when this project was first mooted a few years ago, a New Zealand born director, whose name escapes me, was supposed to be involved. I remember reading a press article where this director wondered about whether Nigger's name would be used or not. You mentioning President Ob...
