BAXTER, Squadron Leader Charles Edward, DFC.
NZ415732 & 70096; Born Waimate, New Zealand, 9 Apr 1919; NZ Army/TF 1940-1941; RNZAF 19 Oct 1941 to 30 Apr 1969,
Res. to 9 Apr 1974; Wireless Operator-Air Gunner, then Secretarial.
Citation Distinguished Flying Cross (18 Sep 1945): [186 Sqn RAF (Lancaster)] Flight Lieutenant Baxter, as Wireless Operator/Air Gunner,
has completed numerous operations against the enemy, in the course of which he has invariably displayed the utmost fortitude,
courage and devotion to duty. Flt Lt Baxter also served with 75 and 214 Sqns completing at least 32 sorties.
From 27 Apr 1946 to 23 Oct 1950 he was a member of No 1 Missing Research Enquiry Unit (France) engaged in tracing
the thousands of Commonwealth airmen missing on operations over Europe.
