I'm terribly sad to record the passing of one of 463 Squadron's finest, Don Huxtable, in a Sydney hospital overnight.
Don was one of the first veterans I ever met and was very much one of the legends of 463 Squadron. A number of forum members met him in Canberra several years ago who would probably agree!
A few photos from the last couple of years here on my blog.
Many thanks Adam for keeping us informed.
Don was typical of those who served 463 Squadron.
He never said too much, he just got on with doing his job and did it dam well.
It was a pleasure to have met him.
Vale Don Huxtable.

" There is nothing glorious about war with the exception of those who served us so valiantly"
Don figured quite prominently in Gus Belford's wonderful autobiography "Born to Fly" which I'm very lucky to have a copy of. Having read about Don, I was delighted and honoured to meet him in Canberra 2010, I was not disappointed! He asked if I could use my research knowledge to locate his flight engineer (I think) from the Manchester area but despite my best efforts I drew a blank. I regret having let him down in that respect but felt privileged to have talked to him in person. Blue skies Don.
