Post by Nocturna mors »

This DFC medal group has associated WW2 logbook , WW2 Photographs plus extensive postwar material on a lifetime in aviation with over 8 million miles flown

Serving with 78 Squadron shot up Germany pursued by jets , coned by searchlights awarded DFC First pilot back from first daylight raid on the Ruhr and broadcast his experiences on the BBC to the empire !

Post war a colourful life Hijacked in Beiruit taken prisonber by rebels in East Inia 1949 and numerous other scrapes . Famous passengers included Frank Sinatra Gregory Peck Shah of Iran etc . Awarded 10000 mile medal by KLM along with warning letters about turning up incapacitated by drink . Extensive postwar documents in three large boxes manuals maps etc .

WW2 Material includes logbooks photos of bombing areas , aircraft , cockpits crew , mess bills correspondence private and RAF Telegrams tech data on aircraft certificates test results

Post WW2 Manuals maps charts logbooks photographs an mementos of career

One mans life in aviation , in his later years collated and detailed much of this material and was obviously proud to show it and repeat his anecdotes amongst friends .

A reluctant sale due impending building works costs , This is unresearched other than his own documentation and deserves preservation. Easily the basis of a book

Don't think todays pilots would get too many warning letters!
