WW2 RAF Bomber Command Log Book Group to 550 Sqn

This auction is for a WW2 RAF Bomber Command Medals and Log Book to

1432156 F/O, Alan Bodill,

550 Sqn, R.A.F.V.R.

including newspaper cliping of him and his Aircrew being awarded the Croix de Guerre, Medals inc Air Crew Europe Star and a Group Photo dated 1944.

list of Operations:

Ops - 01.01.44 - Berlin,

Ops - 27.01.44 - Berlin,

Ops - 28.01.44 - Berlin,

Ops - 24.02.44 - Schweinfurt,

Ops - 25.02.44 - Augsburg,

Ops - 01.03.44 - Stuttgart,

Ops - 15.03.44 - Stuttgart,

Ops - 30.03.44- Nurnburg,

plus others in all 30 Ops listed in log book.

This Air Gunner + the rest of the aircrew were awarded the Croix de Guerre for there part in the bombing raid before the D-Day landings.

The Citation reads:

On june 6th 1944 the greatest liberating armada ever assembled left the shores of England. For Bomber Command, The invasion of occupied europe commenced the night before. At 23.34 hours Lancaster LL811 Squadron markings BQJ, was the first aircraft in the first wave to strike ahead of the main spearhead by many hours.. so setting the momentous events in motion.

"For services rendered in this great event in history the following crew members were awarded citations of the Croix de Guerre 1939-45. F/O Bowen Bravery, P/O Zhomed, G.E, W/O Cleghorn, A, W/O Fyfe, J.D, Flt/Sgt Bodill, A, Sgt Thompson, R.R, and Sgt Thompson S.G,"

The citation states that the award was officially made on june 2, 1985, and on the plaque it says that the aircraft left from 550 Squadron, and this historic operation put Killingholme on the map.

NM, I would expect these items to fetch quite some money. To me, the logbook is the most significant item of interest. Everyone will have their own thoughts.
