http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW2-RAF-617-D ... 5895f4924dA framed selection of Relics from F/Lt J Hopgood's Lancaster "M" for Mother, of 617 Squadron RAF which was hit by flak as it made its bomb run against the Mohne Dam on May 17th 1943. The Bomber crashed six kilometers from the Dam killing all but one of the crew who became a POW. This frame came from a local Museum which closed in 1994 & is one of a number of related items we will be listing on eBay over the next few weeks. The frame contains a piece of the Lancaster plus other items from the crash site, all unearthed during road construction in the 1960's. There is also a pair of Mk V11 Goggles with the remains of a leather strap and a relic wristwatch which has stopped at the precise time the Lancaster crashed at 00.34. Two small items have been removed for the photograph but will be put back and are included in the auction.
I would have thought that the watch, parachute buckle??.. and goggles were found with the airman's remains?
The watch at least!... should have been forwarded to his relatives. Its very sad to see relics such as these auctioned off for profit!
Me personally,....i don't think this lot is genuine. It is more likely,.... to have been "thrown together" in an effort to hoodwink the unwary!
