Hi all,
Was BF443 a MkI or MkIII Stirling?
Any other details would be helpful as well.
Have done a Google search, with no luck.
Thanks,
Wayne.
Stirling BF443
Re: Stirling BF443
Hello,
According to 'THe Stirling Story' by Michael JF Boyer, BF443 was a MKI with Hercules XI engines. Contract 774677/38 at Short & Harland, Belfast.
Posted to 75 Squadron as 'V' on 2 February 1943, transferred to 1651 Conversion Unit on 17 August 1943, to 8 MU on 11 July 1944. EMR on 1st August 1944.
Strangely I had never seen 'EMR' before. Does somebody knows what it means?
Thanks in advance.
Bruno

Thanks for the info about BF443 Bruno.
I don't think I've seen "EMR" before either.
Wayne.

Hmm. That has the brain working! EMR ?? EM (whatever) is usually "Written Off" as in EFA, EFB but EMR is an oddball. I have seen it a few times, but usually followed by SOC, so whatever it was, it must have been serious?

From the same book ........... E - Cateorised Write off .............. MR - Major Repair ............... so in thinking, the aircraft was written off with one unit, changed / taken to another, being 8 MU, and then repaired.
