FlyPast magazine Stirling coverage

Post by gate1 »

The latest 'FlyPast' magazine contains a large section devoted to the Stirling, as well as news about a Stirling find in Holland.

I'm kicking myself now. Was in WH Smiths earlier today, saw the top half of the cover in the rack and didn't bother picking it up! This is from the contents page on the website, covers 24 pages:

Spotlight on the Short Stirling

Origin and History
Dave Willis looks at the production history and operational career of the Stirling – the RAF’s largest World War Two bomber.

Contemporaries Compared
Steve Beebee sets out how the hefty Stirling compared to other four-engined bombers of the day.

Men Behind the Stirling
Graham Pitchfork profiles the dramatic flying days of two Stirling pilots.

Inside the Stirling
Cutaway artwork of a Short Stirling Mk.III.

Stirling in Profile
Pete West artwork of a Stirling that was lost on a raid to Germany in 1943.

In Combat
Stirlings suffered heavy losses in the desperate attempts to re-supply forces at Arnhem, as Tom Spencer explains.

There are tons of photos within the articles, and three or four within the piece relating to the excavated remains. I'm afraid I didnt get a copy though!

Hi John

You can buy the magazine online

http://www.flypast.com/view_issue.asp?ID=946

Postage costs £2.00 for overseas surface mail and £4.50 for airmail. Oz is one of the countries listed so you should be ok.

Hi Dee,

Any chance of posting what you may think is the best or most unusual pic?
