Hi,
It seems their names were not ficticious in the film, as i have found that 3 of these were killed on the night of 21/22 January 1944, on board Lancaster W4852 of 15sqdn.

Hi the crew where real serving airmen, here is some more information. whith a summary of f/s Bergins service record. p.s I have f/s Bergins medals, regards Mike

F/S Joseph S.Bergin was lost on Ops to Magdeberg in Lancaster W4852 LS-B took off from RAF Mildenhall at 20.20 hrs but lost without trace.

Lancaster I W4852/B - took off at 2020 captained by Flt Sgt R J Butler, RAF, on same raid as the above. Lost without trace, the seven crew are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
Navigator: NZ402533 Flt Sgt Joseph Stanley BERGIN, RNZAF - Age 33. 558hrs.
