Hi John,
The only thing that worries me about the Leonard Cudlipp crew photo, is that 582sqdn did not use Stirlings. Unless of course it was taken at a HCU.
Details from the ORB show that this crew consisted of the following airmen. The crew were posted in on the formation of 582sqdn on 1st April 44, and flew their first operation on 11th April to Aachen.

S/Ldr H.W.B. Heney, RNZAF, Pilot.
F/O R.D. Lamb, RNZAF, Nav 1.
P/O S.W. Brown, RAAF, Nav 2.
Sgt F.S. Webb, W/Op.
F/Sgt F.R. Ross, RNZAF, M/U.
F/Sgt A.G. Harrington, RNZAF, R/G.
Sgt L.W. Cudlipp, F/E.
From 5 photos i've found on various sites, 3 of which are from Auckland Cenotaph database.i think that the following are.....
R.D. lamb, 1st left.
HWB Heney, 2nd left.
AG Harrington,1st right.
FR Ross, 2nd right.
LW Cudlipp, middle
Then.......
3rd left seems to have a darker uniform, which could make him the Aussie, SW Brown.
which leaves FS Webb as 5th from left.
But the last 2 are only my guessing.

Alan.

Thanks Alan, sometimes I see immediate mistakes on photos posted on the sites that I visit and correct them when I bring them over, other times they go through to the keeper!
Any details you find, please 'edit' the post and or send it to me.
Cheers,
John

Have edited my previous post with crew details etc, but here is some more information on the crew, which ends tragically.
April ops......
11th, Aachen.
20th, Karlsruhe.
26th, Essen.
27th, Aulnoye.
30th, Somain.
May.....
6th, Nantes.
9th, Cap griz Nez.
22nd, Dortmund.
24th, Aachen.
27th, Rennes, missing, all killed.
It appears from Chorley, that S/Ldr Heney had 59 ops to his credit, so there are at least 50 ops completed elsewhere. Unfortunatley, the ORB does not say where the crew were posted from. More digging to do :D
Alan.
Dug a little deeper and it appears that Heney flew with 37sqdn, 75sqdn and 7sqdn before 582, so the photo with the Stirling could be with either 75sqdn or 7sqdn.
Attached is description of what happened with this crew on the Dortmund op on 22nd May, for which Heney was awarded the DSO.

Hi

I have just joined the forum, if i send a photo to someone for this thread can they post it for me please, it was taken at Lakenheath in late 1943, it shows my Grandfathers crew and the ground crew, i have no idea of the serial number as they flew many different Stirlings the short time they were there, he only completed 5 ops there before they were pinched for the the Pathfinders, he went on to complete another 51 ops from Oakington in Lancasters

Thanks

Colin

Colin,
Welcome to the forum, and thank you for your offer of a photograph. If you would like to send it to me i'll post it for you. Do you happen to know which Pathfinder squadron he flew with.
Regards...Alan.
