Struggle they might dear boy - they could not reach the heights of the Halifax and the Lancaster. I believe the Wellington managed a bit better! In fact I remember a chap telling me that he started out on Stirlings but was grateful to eventually be posted to Lancaster Squadron, following special duties on Halifax's (which he liked incidentally). I think most crews were grateful to the Stirling fellows providing (all be it reluctantly) a shield!! And yes the bomb bay was to shallow but swings and roundabouts etc.
But was - because of the roomy fuselage - useful for radio counter measures.
Yes - very evocative picture Max = and so of course is the famous colour one, but rather obviously posed I think? But yours I would say shows it pretty much as was.
Your turn Max.

A rather grainy pic from a wartime publication, there are more flak bursts but had to cut them out for size.
There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.

One would have thought that the easiest thing to do would be to extend the runway!

Must admit I was not aware of bomb loads in the wing compartments.

Yes - they did - like the Halifax - making the most of the space. Particularly good shot of the identification lights too.

I have often wondered about this photograph.I would have thought it impossible for them to have moved a Stirling in this way. And I am not sure if they are really pushing - see the chap at the back of the group. But a very valuable photo from a modellers point of view - for u/c and wheel bay detail.

Was having a look for construction photos and came across this - the Longbridge factory 1943. It seems incredible that so many aircraft were produced - and appalling that not one was saved. It also says something about those who ran the logistics etc.
