7 sqn Stirling Mannheim April 17th 1943 serial

Post by sandiego »

7 sqn Stirling A7 possibly R9248? or R9243The captain sighted a Ju88 5 miles south of Mannheim as he was running in to the target. I have the combat report but it is very bad quality and I can't read the serial number. Can't tell the Captain's name. The gunners were Harris and Bullock Any clues please?

Hello Peter,

Was this crew and aircraft lost,or did they return safely home.

I have found Stirling Serial No: R9248 AA-H RAF 75 Squadron but it was lost at Lorient on 23/24 January 1943.I cannot find a reference for Stirling R9243.

Regards

Bob

Michael Bowyers book "The Stirling Story"records R9243 thus (I'm not sure on some of the abbreviations so I've copied it verbatim - hopefully someone can interpret!):

R9243 Y,C/75 Sqn 2.10.42, BS-K, W-K/1651 CU 27.9.43, EFA Waterbeach 6.8.44, u/c torn off as a result of take-off swing.

After some help form a friend I think it is R9249 which was with 7 Squadron at the time and coded A as well as H.

Anybody got the 7 sqn orb for 16/17th April 43 that could verify that?
