I came across this site by accident after Googling my grandfather's aircraft - I have been in touch with Smudger a while ago via another website. Every now and then something else pops up - hence I am here.

My grandfather's aircraft was Stirling R9298 and I remember reading somewhere that the intruder that claimed his aircraft was shot down but cannot remember for the life of me where I read it. Possibly in a book by jock Whitehouse on the history of Stradishall. It was interesting to see that another Stirling had encounter an intruder that night abd was lucky enough to survive!

Possibly a question for Mark: how do we know that the Me410 of Fw.Ernst Dietrich and Uffz.Walter Schaknies was the one that shot down R9298?

Regards

John
