Bomber Command Memorial

Wondering if anyone from the Society would be attending forthcoming unveiling ceremony of the Memorial in Green Park London this coming Thursday 28 th June
I am taking my father,whos brother was Flight Sergant Benny Squadron 15, shot down by nightfighter 27 th September 1943 near Hanover.
My father would like to meet any veterans or family members of crew of Short Stirlings.

We have been fortunate to acquire tickets to the memorial area on the day and very much looking forward to it

A few pictures from today's BC Memorial event. The day was wonderfully well organised and very well worth the journey. I met lots of friends including Jonathan Falconer Richard!!

The "Salute Area" of Green Park where the majority of us were seated, we watched the proceedings on the screen but still felt a part of it all.



The Memorial, built of beautiful Portland stone (the quarry a stone's throw away from my house!)



The ceiling is made from aluminium from a Lancaster.







The figures are just amazing in their detail and the whole scene very evocative of a tired crew just returned from an op.







Sorry about all the rubbish after the poppy drop.....video's a bit too advanced for me!!

I thought these images were amazing. With the gentleman on the left, you can see the effort he has gone to just to make the day.

Such wonderful photos for a memorable day.
My father enjoyed the day immensley and we were priviliged to meet so many veterans and their families on such a lovely day.
The clouds parted and the sun shone (albeit,rather warm at times)

We were seated in the memorial area,and the service was very moving and had an intimate atmosphere
The RAF were so extremely helpful,nothing to much trouble for them,and when we made our way down to Salute area later,were given poppies that had fallen from the Lancaster,a treasured momento.

The memorial is truely remarkable(we were talking to one of the stone masons who worked on it) Hopefully many people will see it that were unable to attend yesterday.

A day, that sadly,many more should have seen
