Members - Why you've chosen your 'Tag' name?

Hi Folks,

Just thought I'd ask members as to why they have chosen their forum 'Tag' name. Thought it may help us all further appreciate our chosen names / members. I trust in many cases, they are named after our family members who may have flown in Bomber Command but i trust also in other cases, for whatever reason, it would also have equal significance. Again, just thought it would be very interesting for all.

I'll start it off with my tag.

John - k4kittycrew - Because my fathers' crew flew their first three operations in LE-K, from 630 squadron, thus, they became known as such.http://home.clara.net/heureka/lincolnsh ... arkins.htm

Absolutely no reason of any significance!
'Kookabat', a name conjured up from bits of two of Australia's native fauna, the kookaburra and the wombat. I honestly don't recall why I chose those two, but it's been my nickname on various online forums and emails for more than a decade.

Mine - 'gate1' - began as 'gayt1', which comes from my old school, which this year celebrates its 100th birthday. The school, an old grammar school sits on Gayton Road and thus the name of the school magazine became the Gaytonian, the boys Gaytonians and former pupils Old Gaytonians. We lost pupils and staff in both wars, as well as one in between (who was RAF) and several since the end of the Second World War. The majority were RAF with 5 battle of Britain crew lost during the battle or after. I now run the archives for the school and edit the old boys magazine. Its a name I have used on several forums and the like for years.

Hi,

I chose 1653 HCU as this was the unit my dad was with when converting to Stirlings in November 1944.

He then continued with 1653 HCU converting to Lancasters and then being posted to 514 Squadron.

regards,

Malcolm

Good question John. PAFG = the initials of the title of the book I'm writing, but don't hold your breath because it's incredibly slow progress. I won't admit what PAFG stands for though, until I'm safely signed up with a lucrative book deal

Sorry, tried to keep a straight face...

Obviously mine comes from the old Lanc R5868 from its "467" days as PO-S. The significance: It was my uncle's chosen hack in late 44 and early 45 until it went on its promotional tour. His next trip was in PO-W and the crew was shot down and all but two killed. If it hadn't been for that promotional tour, I may have met my uncle.

Thanks to all who have responded to date, it is great to hear to reasons why you have chosen your 'tags'. I especially want to thank Kerry for his comments. A very moving contribution, mate.

Halifax1 simply because it is historic - one I have used for many years when I first had to sign on to a site (and it was a Halifax in which my Uncle was shot down). I am reluctant to change it because having regard to my advanced years i am unlikely to remember any new "tag" name!! I have had many nicknames of course - none of which could be used on a site as respectable as this!
