Anzac Day 2011 - We will remember them

Post by K4KittyCrew »

On Monday, the 25th of April 2011, we Australians and New Zealanders join together in paying our respects to all of those fine men and women, who has served us in conflict.
We, the people, sincerely appreciate their efforts.

The Ode
_________

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
The Ode comes from For the Fallen, a poem by the English poet and writer Laurence Binyon and was published in London in The Winnowing Fan: Poems of the Great War in 1914. This verse, which became the Ode for the Returned and Services League, has been used in association with commemoration services in Australia since 1921.

I spent ANZAC Day this year in the company of 10 veterans from the 463-467 Sqn Association in Sydney, along with perhaps 25 other descendents, family members and other assorted hangers-on. Some photos (more to come later, I hope - from others who were there) and a short write-up is now on my blog: http://somethingverybig.wordpress.com/2 ... -day-2011/

Quite a day.

Great news, Adam. Look forward to your photos.
I watched the ABC to follow the march in Brisbane. Sadly, the Bomber crews from 460, 463-7, were represented ( from what I could see ) by only 3 members ....... in wheel chairs. This, from what I remember from last year, was a big decline. I guess we must face the facts and realise that these gentlemen, like us, cannot go on forever but I still felt very sad because of it, but I did feel very proud to see the 'crews' that were their and to see the squadron poll bearers carrying the banners.

This is a picture of Warrington 'Anzac Day' which takes part every year at 'Soldier's Corner'. The graves are mostly Australian,but there are a few New Zealand and Canadian graves.All of them are from WWI, and all who are buried there died of their wound's in the local hopital's.
