Hi, has anyone any information concerning Sgt. William James Bott (1580780)who was shot down on 10th June 1944 near Omerville, France and buried at Omerville Communal Cemetery, Val d' Oise, France together with other crew members;
P.O. C.M. Houghton - 176435, RAF
Sgt. H Ison - 1667376, RAF
Sgt. J. C. Cameron - 1323158, RAF
P.O. R.E. Dennis - J92193, RCAF
P.O. W. J. Barr - J92196, RCAF
I think the aircraft was returning from Etampes (somewhere in France?)
can anyone explain what mission his flight was involved in?
William (Bill) was my husbands uncle.

Re: Sgt W. J. Bott 630 Sqn
There were 5 BC operations mounted on the night of 9/10 June 44, all but one escaped the attentions of the Nachtjagd. The one which was hit comprised 117 aircraft attacking the railway junction at Etampes, south of Paris. Six Lancasters were lost, most in the target area. 630 squadron Lancaster PB121 was most probably shot down by Oblt Johannes Werth of Stab NJG2 at 00.42 hrs at an altitude of 2700m. Hi John,
I see there was one survivor from the crew.
He was the bomb aimer, F/O D. C. Percy who initially evaded until being captured in Paris on the 28th or 29th of July.
He spent time in Buchenwald before being sent to Camp L3.
Wayne.
