Nice ones - we used to visit Reculver frequently when we lived down that way. The two towers , it has been suggested where like those of the Dam - frankly I did not think so. I would say the attraction was the access from London, rather deserted and shallow water to ease recovery. Which they did not that long ago and one of the "mines" is exhibited in a small museum there. Used to be quite a reasonable pub there too, but probably all bouncy castles oiks and plastic food!

Gents,

Without being predictable, the Lancaster with the white rudder IS NOT G-H EQUIPPED. !!! No.467 Squadron RAAF was not equipped nor the rest of No.5 Group.!!

Cheers

I've looked through hundreds of 467/463 squadron photos and never seen any signs of a Lanc with a fin painted like this, I'm not even sure it's a 5 Group let alone a 467 squadron Lancaster. From around June 1944 5 Group painted the yellow edging to their squadron codes, which this one clearly doesn't have. I can't quite work out the serial number, that would help to settle it!

Hi Max,

I did a search on G-H Tail fin markings and Larrys site came up.
He has the serial as LM583 of 467 squadron.

Like you, I'm sure it's not 467 squadron.

Interesting Wayne. I can say straight away that the caption on Larry's photo is wrong, ie saying it's 463 squadron. Their code was JO, this Lanc isn't. It COULD be PO, 467's code, but it's a big assumption to make. I'm in Cardiff right now but when I get home tomorrow I'll check out LM583.

Wayne,

With all due respect, do not use this site to check on G-H markings. I had a very long and heated debate with Larry about the incorrect captions on his site in relation to GH markings. In the end I was asked to leave, which I was happy to do.

Other than No.3 Group no other group in Bomber Command was thus equipped. The 2nd TAF used it briefly as did two Canadian Squadrons of No.6 RCAF Group in November 1943.

I am preparing on my blog a page dedicated to GH markings used by No.3 Group.

Cheers

A case I think of Larry looking at a caption and accepting that it was correct without checking it out - as we know a pretty basic error for some people purporting to be researchers or "authorities"!!

It's not a GH marking, its a 5 Group tail marking and captioned as a 467 Sqd aircraft in one of the 'at War' volumes of Garbett & Goulding.

Codes behind the roundel on both sides of a Lanc is not that unusual, seen on 101, 75, & 15 Sqd that I can think of off the top of my head. It is the first time I've seen it on a 467 Sqd Lanc though.
