Thought this was a very good photo of Guy Gibson with his crew.

John,
The photo you posted was taken at RAF Scampton 27th May 1943 during the royal visit. The weather looks in suspense,..the sky very foreboding.

One of my favourites taken the same day was this one. I wonder what he is reading?

Some more from the same series of photographs http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/listi ... Penrose%22

A nice shot of Guy complete with operational moustache.

His left glove seems to have had a hard life!

No idea of the source for the last picture but, will rightfully credit them if i find out.

Sorry to contradict you, but the two colour pictures were taken in July 1943, not during the royal visit on 27 May 1943. There is another one from the same sequence showing Gibson with my uncle, David Maltby, in the CO's office. Gibson is wearing a battledress uniform top in all these pictures. In the pics taken on the royal visit he is wearing his more formal uniform jacket (as you would expect when meeting the King and Queen!).

Hello Charles,.. thanks for the information. The picture of your uncle David and Guy is a great photo. Incidentally,....the exact place this photograph was taken.

....was the subject of a video recorded ghost hunt, viewtopic.php?f=6&t=973

It makes an interesting "then & now" comparison does it not! Its a real shame how the office looks now. :(

It could be restored using this great photograph as a reference.

In the picture,..it looks like they are discussing some pictures in a magazine?

There is also a nice piece on the desk in the foreground,...in the shape of a bomb! I wonder where that is now?.....eh AlanW ;)

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the book Gibson is 'reading' is Mallory's Morte D'Arthur.

And I'll bet five bob that's the Bomber Command Quarterly Review they're pointing to in the office. Anyone have Volume 5, Apr - Jun '43?
