Stirling - MacRobert's Reply photo

Post by K4KittyCrew »

Found this photo in a very good book about the RAF, 'Illustrated History of the RAF' by Roy Conyers Nesbitt.

Details listed about the photo ............

In Oct 1941, a Short Stirling 1 named "MacRobert's Reply" began operations following a 25 thousand pound donation by Lady MacRobert for the purchase of the bomber.

Lady MacRobert had lost three sons, one in a flying accident before the war and two while serving in the RAF.

Regards,
John

There is a film of the first of these Stirling on British Pathe News. You have to watch an advert first but its worth it to hear the aircraft engines:

Have just received a copy of Stirling Wings by Jonathan Falconer and there is a picture of the first MacRoberts Reply (in the air) on page 16. The picture is one owned by Peter Boggis one of the first aircrew to use her so not one that appears in books often I would think. :D
