Hello,

Here are the first details I found about Carles Myers and his crew:

These airmen were onboard Stirling IV EF234.
EF234 was one of 8 aircraft detailed this night for supply dropping to SOE targets; in this case a Dropping Zone 'DRAUGHTS 7' at position 52 degrees 38.55 North / 05 degrees 10.18 East in Netherlands. The load carried was 20 containers and 3 panniers. We have no indication of the cause of the loss and EF234 ans its crew were never retrieved.

Taken from 'Though Without Anger' by Colin Cummings.

Regards.

Re: C. A. Myers - Lost 8-9 Nov 44

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Loss register of special duties aircraft on http://harringtonmuseum.org.uk/Carpe...umHomePage.htm
adds that intended DZ was at Venhuizen, which is near Enkhuizen along the west bank of the (former) Zuider Zee.

The register of lost aircraft in The Netherlands on nimh.nl doesn't mention EF234, so the Stirling may have disappeared over the North Sea.
On the other hand, many aircraft were found when large portions of the Zuider Zee were turned into polders, but the area around Enkhuizen is still water.

Regards,

Leendert

Hello Bruno & John
Sorry about delayed response to mail (Bank Holiday visitors!) Many thanks for the information provided on EF234. Have arranged for photo of my friends 196 Squadron screen to follow at the earliest opportunity.
Can you confirm that C A Myers was Flight Engineer. Do you know take off base for mission?

Of interest to John? I live 10 minutes away from ex RAF Winthorpe, part of now site of Newark Air Museum. Can remember as a very small boy going to see bomber that overshot and crashed in my Uncles garden! believe it was a Lancaster.
I am hoping to put a small document together for my friend on her Uncle Alf so any other information would be most welcome.
Regards

Hi,

I'm not at home so I can't confirm but EF234 should have taken off from RAF Wethersfield in Essex, 196 and 299 Squadrons' airbase in December 1944.
I expect I'll can confirm it soon.
Regards.
