Web Site

Post by smudgersmith218 »

Gents,

Can anyone help and point me in the right direction. I would like to create a small web site using material I have been given via an ex 218 Squadron air gunner. Log Books, diary & photos etc. One of the provisos by the family was that material would be seen and used by anyone interested in Bomber Command / 218 Squadron.

Problem, I have not got a clue on how to create a web site, so can anyone point me into the right direction for a good book on the subject. It must be idiot proof!!! Otherwise the chances of me understanding it is almost nil. Simple is GOOD otherwise the likelihood of me putting something together is on par with the Aussie beating the British Lions in a few weeks….nil !!

TIA

Make a blog!
www.wordpress.com is the one I use. Free account is quite good (address is yoursitename.wordpress.com), or for about $20 a year you can easily get a domain name (ie address would be yoursitename.com or similar).
Easy to upload stuff and no coding or anything required.

That'd do as a start anyway. Then as you learn more you can branch out. I'd say wait til Max gets back from holidays for advice on that, his is particularly good.

Hi Richard,

I did momentarily consider, but who wants to be associated with those Lancaster mob, all gongs and bravado, very 5 Group !!

Give me a Stirling, rough, brutish and hard to handle…….a bit like my misses !

PeteT was instrumental in building the blog I have written pertaining to my father. For an example of his work see below.

Hi Steve

Wordpress.com is definitely the way to go. It won't cost you anything at all. There are loads of themes (design frameworks) and adding text and pictures is very easy.
You can also track the number of visitors, where they came from and what they look at on site
I run my blog on it. I have over 300 posts going back five years.
Email me if you want further advice. My details are on the "about" page on my blog.
