Flypast magazine November issue

Post by ME453 »

I picked up the latest issue of Flypast magazine partially because I was intrigued by the cover showing a Stirling and the tag line "Predators Waiting". Imagine my surprise and delight when I turned to p24 to find the article written by our very own Smudger Smith! Well done Steve, an excellent feature and very well written - well worth the fortune that the magazine costs! Antipodean readers will be able to buy a copy next year when the mail boat arrives.

Thank you, Max .............. In the meantime, could one be afforded the luxury of some images :D
Also, good to hear Steve making comment for the magazine, we only have the best learned colleagues on this forum ................ looking forward to purchasing it.
Cheers,

I did post a link to a Flypast Magazine download site, but deleted it, as i it was a subscription site.
There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.

The title page spread to Steve's article included a magnificent painting of a 218 squadron Stirling at dawn by Adam Tooby (www.finesthourart.com). It's available as a limited edition print signed by the artist which I just couldn't resist! Photos below (mine's No.7 of 200), it will be framed and hang alongside my prized Dambuster's painting in the study.

Certainly excellent work, Max.
If you don't mind me asking, what are the approximate sizes?
Cheers,

Of course not John, the print is A2 in size - 59.4 x 42cm (23.4 x 16.5 inches). If you follow the Finest Hour link above and go to Private Collections you'll see all the details including costs and shipping, plus other examples of Adam's work. He is a digital artist, hence computer-generated rather than the traditional brush.

Must be a very special feeling to see an aircraft with your father's squadron codes on it.
I know I saw a photo of LE-K Lancaster ( although with a different serial number ) from 630 squadron in one of Harry Holmes books.

You stop, look at the photo .............. think a bit more, pause and look again and again.

I know fellow member, Guy has posted photo of his father with his crew and aircraft ............ all marvellous stuff.

As Max has said, well done Dave.
