Looking for information on Frederick J. Frost of 620 Squadron, shot down 30/7/43. I am in contact with his daughter who would like to know more.

The Nachtjagd War Diaries states that Stirling EE905 of 620 squadron was shot down at 00.43 by Lt. Wilhelm Schneidewind of 2./NJG4, his second victory, 16km south of the Givet/Willerzie area flying at an altitude of 3,900m. His success was short lived for he was killed in combat just two weeks later, shot down by a 141 squadron Beaufighter at Chatillon le Roi, north west of Orleans.

My understanding is that after being shot down Frost was able to contact Belgium resistance and was transferred to Paris where he was captured in a "safe" house on 2nd October 1943 following a betrayal. Following his capture he was imprisoned in the Gestapo's Fresnes Prison.

We are curious as to the circumstances surrounding his capture and the amount of time he spent in Fresnes before being transferred to Stalag Luft 6 and to whether he passed through Dulug Luft.

Can anyone help? Has anyone a copy of his POW Repatriation Report in their files that we might see?

I have found out a little more about Frost.

He flew his first operation as a 2nd pilot to Sgt C. Smith, to Hamburg, on 24th July 1943.

On July 25th the day following the Hamburg operation he went to Essen.
On July 28th 1943 the Frost crew were one of 17 aircraft that were deployed on a minelaying operation in the waters off the Frisian Islands.
His final operation was on the night of 30/31 July 1943 when Bomber Command sent 273 aircraft to attack Remscheid

I do have information regarding an airman who suffered the same fate of betrayal in July of that year; he spent 15 July to 28 August at Fresnes and then 30 August to 12 September at Dulag Luft before being sent to prison camp.

Not sure if this helps with your man but it may give you an idea of the sort of timings that may be involved.

"My" airman was in Fresnes from 18 September 1943 to 2 October 1943. He spent just two days at Dulug Luft before going to Stalag Luft VI. I believe he was betrayed by Prosper DeZitter.

F J Frost is on a list I have of persons linked to Dezitter's False "Safe" House(s) .... I am just looking back over my notes to see if I stored the links relating to this subject. Will get back to you if I find anything.

From this site http://home.clara.net/clinchy/neeb2a1.htm I see he was the only one captured on 2/10/43 so I had presumed he was alone.
