Re: 75 Squadron BK 604 S Wierden Cemetery Grave Photo
Hi Russell,
Thanks for posting the photo.
I'm still looking into details of your uncle, so just give me a day or so and I'll see what I can find.
Any other photo's you have would be most welcome.
Cheers,
Wayne.

Hi Russell,
First, sorry for the long post I'm about to do.
Second, There was another Sgt Murphy on the squadron at the same time for a short while, and as you will see, most times initials are not used.
So here is my list of your uncle's operations with 75 Squadron. If you have his log book you could check against that.

BK604 was shot down by a night-fighter (Hptm WolfgangThimmig, III.NJG1) while
attempting to penetrate the highly effective German defensive sector along the
Netherlands coastline. The bomber crashed at 20.13hrs near the
township Enter (Overjissel), seven miles SW of Wierden, Holland. Three of the crew
were killed in the crash - the Captain, Flight Engineer and Rear gunner. The remaining
five succeeded in baling out, four of whom landed unhurt but were taken as prisoners.
The Air Bomber’s parachute failed to deploy fully before he impacted the ground and he
died as a result. The deceased were buried in the Wierden General Cemetery.
I'll get the pages from the ORB sorted for you, and send them off shortly.
Cheers,
Wayne.
