loss of Stirling W7629, crashsite located...

Post by Karacho »

Hello gentlemen,

in the last weeks i located the crashsite from Stirling W7629 / MG-Z, No 7 Sqdn, lost in the night 6. / 7.9. 1942, in the area north of Moers / germany.
The Mission on 6.9.1942: Bombing Duisburg. Stirling W7629 don´t return to the base on this night.....
All crew-members died :

N.A. Bennitt 100634 / pilot
R. Sawyer 563012 / engineer
L.G. John 400505 / ?
N. Spalding 1264305 / front gunner
J.M. Smith 403040 / top gunner
H.W. Aldridge 128049 / gunner
C.J. Dupreez 777663 / rear gunner

In the crashsite-area found a lot of wrekparts : Duralparts, some parts from cockpit, etc....
The first detected area is ca. 350 x 60 mtrs, so i think in a bigger area i can find more wreckparts...., next weeks searching again.
The mostly found wreckparts are extremly damaged with a lot of "burning holes", from bullets and "Schrapnells"... looks like a sieve... A direct hit by Flak or detonation in the air...?? ( explosion inside the aircraft ?)

Anyone more informations to this Stirling, crew and loss....?

More pics and information coming in the next weeks

greets
Karacho

hello,

searching again in the crasharea from this Stirling last week.

We found a lot of wreckparts extremly perforated with small an middle holes shot through the outside of Dural ( outside = black / brown colour ), hit by Flak in the air ?
Some parts riddled with holes from the inside of the aircraft ( Dural = grey ), with molten dural around the holes...., explosion inside the aircraft ?
...kind of loss from this Stirling is not sure...

regards

Karacho, are you sure it is W7629? There is a K raport stating she went down at Baaler Bruch, bei Goch. I have been to the site and we found Stirling parts back then (1980s). Danny

Would it be fair to say that the 'feathered bird' would have to be a clear indication as to whether this aircraft is or is not W7629.
I certainly welcome further comments and details on this.
Cheers,
