Squadron & Airman details - Help required.....

Post by Davenport7 »

Hello all,

I am trying to obtain details of the below named airman, he was in the RAF and was also a POW in Europe with my grandfather.

Stanley Hewitt
RAF Sergeant - Poss.7 Squadron unsure though...
Service number I think is 1168511
POW number 162.

Any details on Squadron, aircrew, missions, when he was shot down camps etc would be of great help.

Regards

Ian

Hi Ian ...

Tried him in Lostaircraft database and no joy ... am a way at the moment so can not look in the RAF POW book Footprints on the Sands of Time to see his POW listing but he should be in that ..

Cheers

No stanley Hewitt in Footprints, no Hewitt from 7 Squadron there either, perhaps he was from Fighter or Coastal Command therefore not listed in Footprints.
Researching my father's time with 50 Squadron, 97 Squadron, Dulug Luft, Stalag Luft VI, Stalag 357 and Stalag Luft III.

1168511 Warrant Officer S.W.B. Hewitt, Stalag 357, pow no 162. As David said, not in Footprints, so one of the other Commands.
There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.
