Hi to all from a new member. I knew a Lancaster pilot who flew with 630Sqdn from East Kirkby, Angus Cameron was his name. He was shot down in Lancaster ME739 on the night of 10/11 April 1945 over Leipzig. Apparently the victim of a FW190 fighter. Does anyone have a photo of this particular aircraft or of the crew. Sadly Gus has now passed away so I can't ask him.

Hi Dave, my father flew with 630 sqn and I have the ORB's and some images of aircraft from East Kirkby.
Give me a bit of time and I'll have a look.
Cheers,
John

Thanks abc man. Nice photo...I see that the aircraft was also a "paddle steamer". I wonder when that photo was taken. The aircraft was shot down a year to the day that it was issued to the Squadron. Wonder how many Ops it had done.

I'll keep looking.
Cheers, John

just done a little more research on ME-739, it was shot down on its 99th Op....so an old warhorse for sure.

Extract From Wade Rodgers book
5 February 1945. "Flew our old LE-D Dog once again. Quite a kick!"
She had been in for servicing. I tried to souvenir her steering wheel but no-one could think
of any excuse to draw a replacement from Stores. I'd have given a lot to have had such a memento of
her. The old girl had about 86 ops. up then and she went onto do 98. Unfortunately she was shot
down on her 99th, only two operations before the end of the War.

Hi 'W4783' and welcome to the forum.

Yes, the serial numbers did look familar.
Neil, a fellow Aussie and forum member here has posted quite a bit of detail if I remember rightly.
Wade Rodgers was his uncle and Neil and put a lot of work in researching his uncle.

As I've said of late, there are many hidden gems in these forum pages, you just need the time to look.
Cheers
John
