Chaps,
Long shot here.
Recently obtained this original oil painting. Sign "something" Smith 1941 Marham.
The paining is of a Mk.II Wimpy W5457 HA-Z which FTR 18/19th August 1941.
The style is familiar, but I am struggling with a artist. I have checked the squadron, and base ORB for details to no avail.
Any art lovers out there ?
Its a great piece but in bad condition, I hope to have it professional looked at.
TIA
Steve

Re: Help required
Hi Gary,
It is a real gem mate. 1941, trying to establish the artist. A very welcome addition to my collection.
Regards
Steve

Re: Help required
Gent,
Just discovered that this is a painting by David Thornton - Smith who was an official artist for the Air Ministry. On closer examination the artist had signed and dated the work. ( The frame, obviously not the original had covered the details ) It is dated July 1941.
There are examples of his work in the IWM, who I have made contact with.

Re: Help required
Cheers, all.
Thankfully, it was saved from the bin, because that was where it was going to go sadly.
