William Kenneth Wilson

Post by Bruno »

Hello,

Here is the message of Kenneth Wilson:

I am searching my father's WW2 R A F war record. He joined in 1940 and was
based in Dumfries in Scotland with the 10 Bomber and Gunnery School. He was
demobbed in December 1945. His rank was Leading Aircraftman. His service
number was 991632.

He died in 1996 and I am researching his family tree and would be grateful
if anybody knows anything regarding his War Record.

Thank you

Keith Wilson

Hi Bruno and thanks for the inquiry.
Ok, so we can assume he was a bomb aimer / front gunner.
Is there any details as to what squadron he may have been posted ............. a name of the base perhaps?
Cheers,
John

I'm not sure we can assume that he was even aircrew John, he could have fulfilled many ground crew roles at a training base. The enquirer would be far better writing to Cranwell for his father's records.

Hi

As far as I know my father was ground crew that patched up the aircraft on their return from bombing raids.

Keith

I would recommend that you follow Max's advice and obtain a copy of his service record.

The rules for applying and the application forms can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/requests-fo ... ce-records

If you apply as next of kin you will get far more information.

Good luck with your research

Regards

Pete
