Post by HB805 BU-C »

Hello,

Thank you for the acceptens to this forum.

Í'm wondering iff one of you here could help me. I'm searching for the operations of a crew from the 214th squadron.

They flew HB805 BU-C witch chrasd at february 1945 near Düsseldorf. The pilot was FG-Off J.M. Shorttle and the navigator was F/L L.G. Fowler.

For some years now I try to get the details around L. Fowler clear.

I know what happend on februari the 24th 1945. But I'm looking for information between joing 214(around July 1944) and February the 24th 1945.
(However Fowler is mine mean intrest I would like to know more about the rest of the crew besides what is written on the site of 214 sqaudron.
The crew was:
Fg/Off Kenneth Cecil Allan, 183538, Special Wireless Operator, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Nationality : United Kingdom, KIA 24 February 1945

Flt/Lt Frank Richard Woodger, 52114, Flight Engineer, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Nationality : United Kingdom, KIA 24 February 1945, Aged 32 )
Before joing the 214th Shortle and Fowler flew together by the 199th. Anny information about this time is welcome(
P/O Fowler first gets mentioned in the 199 Squadron ORB Summary as one of several officers posted into 199 during November 1942. They do not list where he was posted from but I suspect it was an Operational Training Unit (OTU). The first Op flown by the crew was on 31 December 1942.
Wellington Mk.III EX-B Z1602. Minelaying off French Coast. 2 x 1500lb mines dropped successfully. Took off Blyton 16.54, landed 23.13.
Crew:
Sgt J.M. Shorttle. Pilot
P/O L.G. Fowler. Nav.
Sgt R. Trafford. B/A.
P/O R.C. Chapman. W/Op.
Sgt J. Clarkson. R/G
.)
Last week I Bought the book off John Reid concering the war diary off the 199th, so that wil arive hopefully end off the week from England.

(I hope i made my self clear and sorry for my English Grammar.)
Do you have anny information about the 199th Squadron between Nov. 1942 and August 1944 and the 214th Sqaudron between July 1944 and march 1945 please let me know.
